Rail

Rail is our niche. We have unsurpassed experience across over 2200 rail projects and were authorised by TfNSW as Australia’s first Technically Assured Organisation (TAO) for Crown BCA Certification, BCA Consulting and DDA Accessibility Services.

Serving the rail industry is a huge part of MSA. The rail network in NSW is extensive, consisting of hundreds of stations across the Sydney metropolitan, intercity and country regional networks. Beyond the stations themselves there are also countless maintenance and support facilities, offices, retail, substations and public precincts. The network is so diverse, it almost like its own city spread across the state!

The rail network is in a constant state of change with new stations, upgrades to existing stations and maintenance programs such as lift and escalator replacements.

Through our long-term dedication to the industry, MSA have built a reputation as the trusted leader across the rail network with thousands of projects successfully delivered.  We enjoy providing compliance certainty to our clients and watching their projects succeed.

Transport for NSW has also entrusted us as the first Technically Assured Organisation  (TAO) for Crown BCA Certification, DDA Compliance and BCA Compliance Services, letting our clients know they can always rely on us.

Redfern Station Transport Access Program (TAP) Upgrade

Client:

Novorail, John Holland, Aurecon, TfNSW

Role:

Lead BCA & DDA Consultant

Project Summary:

The $166 Million upgrade of Australia’s 5th busiest station is one of the largest transport access program upgrades ever undertaken. The project involved connecting the new southern concourse with stairs / lifts to existing highly-constrained platforms 1-10 and heritage buildings, then finding reasonable ways to apply modern building codes and Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport – all within a 150 year old station.

We worked heavily with the architects DesignInc Sydney, John Holland, Aurecon and Transport for NSW to solve the endless BCA & DDA riddles and produce this outstanding finished product.

Transport Access Program (TAP)

Client:

Transport for NSW

Role:

Lead BCA & DDA Consultant, Crown Certifier

Project Summary:

The Transport Access Program (TAP), now the Safe Accessible Transport (SAT) program has been progressively upgrading our existing stations to better meet the requirements of the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport (DSAPT) for the last few decades.

MSA staff have been involved in the Transport Access Program since 2007 including assessments of over 150 x stations during feasibility, optioneering, concept, detailed design and construction phases. We’ve dedicated ourselves to this program and there’s no company with more experience in this space than ours.

Existing stations often have significant constraints, including topography, platform setbacks and heritage restrictions – all within an operational environment. This presents many unique challenges when upgrading these stations to meet modern building and disability codes.

Solving the complex challenges can be both timely and costly, but our experience allows us to anticipate these issues before they occur and to implement a tested strategy to resolve them. We understand the expectations of key industry stakeholders which ensures more predictable outcomes and gives earlier clear direction. This brings great efficiency and comfort to any team we support.
